Adopt a Dog in KZN: Find Your Perfect Match
Every dog deserves a happy forever after. Because SAFE operates entirely without traditional, stressful kennel cages, our puppies are socialised in loving foster homes, and our adult dogs thrive in large runs and spacious buildings at our specialised sanctuary. They are household-adjusted, socialised (where possible), and ready to join your family.
How the SAFE Sanctuary & Foster System Benefits You
Puppies Raised in Real Homes
Our puppies live directly with local foster families. They grow up accustomed to household noises, children, domestic routines, and other family pets before they ever reach your doorstep.
Adults Housed in a Sanctuary
We do not use traditional kennel cages. Our adult dogs live in large, open runs and are accommodated in spacious buildings where they run, play, and live in harmonious social packs, where possible.
Deep Personality Insights
Because our animals live in natural, stress-free environments, we know their true characters. Our foster parents and sanctuary caretakers track behavioral traits to guarantee a perfect match for your lifestyle.
Fully Vet-checked & Protected
Every single SAFE dog is fully vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and sterilized before an adoption is finalized.
Rewriting the Rescue Story: The Cage-Free Sanctuary and Foster Model
Traditional sheltering often leaves animals stressed, isolated, and anxious. The loud, confined environment of a standard concrete kennel cage makes it incredibly difficult for a dog’s true personality to shine through, frequently leading to mismatched adoptions and high return rates.
At SAFE, we have pioneered a better way. We believe that healing—both physical and emotional—happens through socialization, freedom, and love.
- Our Puppies are placed directly into our Foster Network, giving vulnerable little ones individual care, bottle-feeding if required, and early house-training inside a family environment.
- Our Adult Dogs are accommodated at our Sanctuary. Instead of staring through iron bars, they live in large buildings and have free access to expansive outdoor runs where they enjoy daily play, structural training, and pack interaction.
Our Adoption Process: 4 Simple Steps
Browse & Inquire
Explore our gallery of rescued dogs and puppies below. Read through their unique personality profiles, specific environmental needs, and quirks. Once a specific dog captures your heart, hit the inquiry button to connect with our adoption team.
Complete the Application
We will send you a comprehensive adoption questionnaire. This form helps us understand your living arrangements, daily routines, work hours, and existing pets to ensure the safety and long-term happiness of both your household and the rescue dog.
The Meet & Greet and Home Check
We arrange a relaxed, controlled meet-and-greet. This is normally done on your property where we do a physical home check and introductions, if there are other animals on the property.
Final Handover
Once the home check has been completed, our team will provide any guidance and answer questions to ensure that both you and your new pet enjoy a comfortable transition. Once the adoption fee is settled, your new best friend comes home!

Transparent Adoption Fees & Vet Compliance
As a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO No: 930076442), SAFE does not profit from adoptions. Our standard adoption fee is a flat contribution that directly offsets some of the foundational veterinary costs required to give your rescue pet a clean bill of health.
Every single SAFE dog goes home with:
- Complete age-appropriate primary vaccinations, rabies protection, deworming, and tick/flea treatments.
- An official registered identity microchip.
- Full sterilisation surgery (spayed or neutered). If a puppy is adopted before they reach the safe operational age threshold, there sterilization can be done at our trusted veterinary sterilisation partner Pulse Veterinary Clinic.
Not Ready to Adopt? You Can Still Fuel the Cycle of Change
Permanency is a massive responsibility. If your current lifestyle, rental agreement, or work schedule prevents you from adopting a dog full-time, you can still play a vital role in preventing animal suffering across KwaZulu-Natal.
Become a Volunteer Foster Parent: Open your home to a puppy or a special-needs rescue recovering from hardship. We supply 100% of the food, bedding, and medical funding … you just provide the safe space and love.
Sponsor a Sanctuary Run: Help us cover the daily running, operational, and nutritional costs of maintaining our large building tracks and open runs for the adult dogs awaiting their forever families.
