Who is SAFE?

The best way to describe who SAFE is and why we created the organisation is to speak into our identified tagline which is

“taking responsibility for change”

There are three core founders, each from different backgrounds and skill sets, however, we are all aligned with our core ethos which is to make a positive change not only for animals but also for our community.

In founding SAFE we sat down and looked at the overwhelming statistics and the reality of the unprecedented numbers of unwanted, abandoned and abused puppies and dogs in KZN at present.

We can no longer “adopt the problem” away, there are just far too many puppies and dogs needing homes, rescue centres are full, and funding and support has dwindled.

We identified three key challenges that are contributing to this problem, namely:

  • Lack of Sterilization
  • Education about the care, treatment, and medical requirements of animal ownership
  • Poverty and job security

We then looked at how we could take responsibility for these areas to see change and formed the three pillars that makeup what SAFE does to contribute towards this change.

About the founders

All three founders can give you stories going back into their childhoods of their natural draw to helping animals and people in distress.

Taking responsibility to see a life changed is natural to all three of them.

Their paths crossed when Milan Comley put out a request for help on social media ahead of the second KZN floods about two litters of puppies who were at risk of drowning, and the rest as they say was history.
